Circus Circus
OK so we weren't Barnum and Bailey!
Preparing to put on a circus would occupy many a summer day. Our side yard was a good place to perform. We charged admission and also sold Kool-aid and popcorn. The prices were something like a nickel for a ticket and a penny for the Kool-aid and popcorn. Our audience consisted of moms, dads, and neighbors.
Our acts included Tumbling, Animals, and Clowns. We did somersaults, handstands, headstands, cartwheels and backbends. Bev was the best at the tumbling acts. Jerry was our clown. Mary Jo's dog Duke and Jerry's dog Puddles were the animals in our circus. My cat, Redi, always had a part.
After the performance, we would divide the earnings and finish off the leftovers.
This picture of me standing on my head reminds me of one of my earliest "Life's most embarrassing moments." A bunch of us were at Bev's house playing outside after dark. I decided to work on my head stand. When I flipped back up, there was something in my hair. Without saying a word to anyone, I headed home fast. Poor mom was faced with the task of taking out my braids and washing the dog poop out of my hair.
