In March of 2009, I launched Version 2 of the My Trixie website. The first of the My Dad's Stories to be included was honoring the 1959 Lincoln High School State Championship 50th Anniversary. To coincide with this story, I chose Mom's poem about basketball.
Just One More Time
- I dream of climbing the bleachers again. When I reach the top, I wave to a friend. Good view of the floor from where we are sitting. I watch the warm-ups to see if they're hitting.
- Coach calls the boys together to review instructions. Teams get set and you can feel the tension. Fellows nervously brush the soles of their shoes. Here we go--poor tossup and the crowd "boos."
- Play proceeds, two points, fouls, and free throws, that's the way the contest goes. Spectators scream, yell, moan and groan and the band plays on.
- Final whistle and I've lost steam.
- I climbed the bleachers again . . . if only in a dream.
