Yuletide Frustrations of a Mother
Well, the Christmas cards are all addressed and sent. I'll admit they were done without much sentiment
Should have written notes to some, or a letter. But, I'm so busy. Next year I'll do better.
I have some fancy sugar cookies to make. Also a new recipe for a Christmas cake.
Tonight the family goes to select a tree. Hope this year we can all agree.
Daddy usually says it's way too tall. The children will think it's way too small.
Sister asked for a new holiday dress, I will make it and hope for success.
We would like to buy it in a store. But the budget won't stretch any more.
Guess I'm trying to do too much. Seems I do nothing but rush, rush, rush.
Have relatives coming to the Christmas meal. Won't be too fancy as tired as I feel.
With our family and extras, it's quite a group. Wish I could just make a big pot of soup!
No turkey this year, takes too long to prepare it. Only one person will
complain, dear old Aunt Harriet!
I must hurry and get some more shopping done. Need one more gift for the youngest son.
You know, he still believes in Santa Clause. Whoa! Stop! Let's you and I take a
pause.
Think and reflect about the reason that young and old celebrate this season
As a child you were told the Christmas story. Now you read your Bible and feel joy and glory.
Why don't we play the children's game of "Let's Pretend?" Imagine we go back in time and visit the manger, my friend.
Baby Jesus sleeps as the Drummer Boy quietly plays his drum. Mother Mary thinks of a lullaby and starts to hum.
The shepherd boy leaves his flock of sheep and comes to the manger to take a peek.
The Three Kings with gifts come from afar. All guided by that brilliant, and shining star!
You say tonight you and the choir go caroling? Think about the messages in the hymns you're singing!
Please take some friendly advice from me. Share the Christmas preparations with your family.
Have them help you, then hear them say; "We will always remember this Special
Holiday!"
I think Mom watched me year after year trying to do too much for the holiday. So often we forget there are no more days between Thanksgiving and Christmas as there are for the same period of time during the year. She dedicated this poem to me. It never did quite sink in.
